Knowledge | Skill |
Knowing how to do something |
Having the ability to actually do it |
Theoretical | Practical |
Can be gained pretty quickly and easily (reading books or taking a course) | Takes time to develop, requires practice |
Knowing that driving involves pressing different pedals, being aware of what's around you, and using your signals | Being able to calmly do all of these together when you and everything around you is moving. |
One of the greatest traps many of us fall into is the myth that if we gaining knowledge automatically means gain skills. It doesn't.
To gain skills we must apply our knowledge, practice consistently, and refine our abilities. Only then can we say we have the skills.
